General FAQ

  • How do I get in?

We are located inside the Studio 1235 Creative Center, attached to Double Dragon. Just use the code in your confirmation email on the call box next to the door.

We are in the back right corner of the building, just past the restrooms in the lobby.

  • Can I bring my friend/child to my appointment?

Due to the nature of most appointments, and the small size of the studio, we don’t recommend bringing any extra people to your appointment.

But we know things happen, and well behaved friends and children are allowed.

  • Whats your cancellation policy?

Services canceled within less than 24 hours and No-Showed appointments will incur a cancellation fee equal to the cost of their service*

In addition, if your appointment is longer than 2 hours, we require 48 hour notice to avoid a 50% late cancellation charge.

No-Call/No Showed appointments and repeated Late Cancellations may result in an inability to rebook.

Due to the nature of services provides and our small space we ask that you arrive no more than 10 minutes before your scheduled appointment time.

If you find yourself in the area too early to come in Best Friend Coffee & Smoothies is only one block away, or if youre really early Double Dragon has great food and drinks, with gluten free and vegan options too!

Facial FAQ

  • I just booked my first facial, now what?

Make sure you fill out your new client paperwork, list any medications/supplements you’re taking- including topicals (even if you only use it sometimes!), and make sure to be as specific as possible when you’re listing your current products.

You’ll want to avoid working out, as well as direct prolonged sun exposure, for at least the first 24 hours after your facial, so plan accordingly.

You’ll be provided a spa wrap to change into, but we always recommend clothes that are comfy to change back into afterwards.

  • Can I get a facial if I have Lash Extensions?

    Yes!

Although we are always careful around the eyes, and especially with lash extensions, your facial will likely involve hot towels, steam, and oils so for lash retention it’s best to come in right before your fill.

  • Can I get a facial if I'm pregnant?

    Yes!

There are some ingredients like Salicylic Acid, or Retinoids, or treatments like High Frequency that are not safe for use during pregnancy, so always make sure to let us know, even if you’re not far along.

As long as you can lay on your back, or lay back in a reclined position for the length of your service, you are welcome to come in for a little self care and to bring out that pregnancy glow.

  • Do I need to come without makeup?

Not at all, your facial includes thorough cleansing and makeup removal.

However, if you come in wearing a lot of heavy eye makeup, I may provide you with makeup remover and ask you to remove your eye makeup as its usually quicker and more comfortable for you to do so yourself.

Do plan on not wearing makeup after your appointment at least for the rest of the day, though.

  • I'm getting married, how far in advance of my wedding should I come in for a facial?

If you have any skin concerns that you want to address before your big day, there’s no such thing as “too early” to start your skin journey.

If you’re just looking for a quick refresh or maybe a dermaplane so makeup glides on smoothly, I never recommend getting your first and only facial the day before your wedding.

Ideally you would come in once at least 4-6 weeks beforehand, that way we will know how your skin reacts to the treatment, we can do plenty of extractions to start you off with a clean slate, and get you set up with at home products to set you up for success. And then you would come in again the week of to plump and smooth your skin right before!

  • Why do you need to know about my medications for a facial?

Lots of medications can cause skin sensitivity and reactivity, but some medications are fully contraindicated for certain services.

There are also some medications that can cause acne or pigmentation as a side-effect. So understanding the root cause and being able to target that by appropriate means is very important in delivering the results you want to see in your skin.

Waxing FAQ

  • I've never waxed, is it going to hurt?

Most people find that their first time waxing is less painful than they expected and that its an extremely short lived pain- as soon as the strip is fully removed, the discomfort stops too.

Plus if you’re waxing regularly the hair becomes sparser and finer the more consistent you are which leads to less and less pain as time goes on!

  • Do you offer men's brazilian waxes?

    The short answer: yes.

    The long answer: No.

Here at The Grove you will find that none of our services are listed by gender (or sex). Brazilians are either booked for 30 minutes- which is enough time to wax a full brazilian on a person who has labia.

Or 40 minutes, which is enough time to wax a full brazilian on a person with a scrotum.

We also don’t charge different prices for a “Men’s Leg” than a “Woman’s Leg”, because we think charging different prices for the same service based on gender is just wrong.

  • Can I get waxed if I'm not 18?

Yes you can! All new clients under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian present at their first appointment, and both the client and their parent must consent to the service.

Clients must be 16 years of age, or older, to receive a bikini/brazilian wax service, and all clients under the age of 18 must bring a parent/gaurdian to their first apointment

  • How long does my hair need to be?

Hair needs to be at least 1/4” to 1/3” long (about the length of a grain of rice) for the wax to properly adhere. For most people this means about 2-3 weeks since your last shave.

If your hair is fully grown in and you’re wanting to trim before your appointment, we recommend using clippers with a guard, and don’t trim shorter than 1”. It’s better to have a little extra hair than not enough!

  • How long after a new tattoo should I wait to wax?

You’ll want to wait until your tattoo is fully healed (not just no longer scabbing) to wax over your tattoo, which in most cases takes 4-6 weeks.

If your tattoo artist recommends longer, always defer to their expertise.

  • How often do I need to come in?

Most people come in every 4-6 weeks for their wax.

When you first start waxing, your hair is on staggered growth cycles, so it usually takes three or four waxes to get your hair synced up.

I typically recommend waiting no more than 4 weeks for your first few services, and after that we can space it out closer to 5 or 6 weeks.
